Nearly 643 millions of adult people ( 20-79 years) are suffering from diabetes round the world. And IDF (International Diabetic Federation) has recognised the  disease as a global burden.

Middle and low income's countries are main victim of this silent killer  disease. IDF also projects every 1  in 8 people will be the victim of diabetic by 2045.

According to WHO and many  other recognised institutions round the world,  diabetes is a chronic endocrine disease in which blood glucose,  we also call, blood sugar level exists completely high in blood plasma. When you become a  diabetes patient your pancreas  is unable to produce  sufficient or any insulin or  the insulin may not work properly.

High level of glucose in blood are dangerous for any diabetes patient. Frequent existence of high sugar level than normal in blood is the major symptom of diabetes or prediabetic.

This type of situation is also known as hyperglycemia. If blood sugar level is consistently high then it can  affect the eyes, kidneys, nerves and blood vessels of diabetic patient. For this reason, doctors always ask people with diabetes to keep their blood sugar level normal.

For keeping blood sugar level normal doctors usually recommend following  two methods.  One is medication and the other is low carb intake. Most of the patients are to be advised to adhere following two procedures simultaneously.

Sometimes diabetic patients are in risk of hypoglycemia after taking of diabetic medicine. Hypoglycemia is  such a serious situation when the patient's blood sugar level is completely low. if hypoglycemia frequently  untreated  it can be life threatening. So to stay healthy you need to make sure that you never get hypoglycemia.

In fact, diabetes patients  are better off when they  keep their lives under controlling of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia simultaneously. That’s why diabetic patients should be very careful of their medication  meals and life style.

So what should be the diet of a diabetic patient? That is a very important  question that has been asked for a long time.  According to the experts, the diet of a diabetic patient should be low in carbohydrates(carbs)

Carbohydrate is the principal  nutrient in food. Other two nutrients in foods are protein and fat. There are three different types of Carbohydrates found in foods. they are starches sugars  and fibers. After taking of foods in our body carbohydrates  converted into glucose and and glucose produces energy.

It is needed  to state  here that another name of glucose is blood sugar. And we are already informed that high level of blood sugar is very dangerous for  diabetic patients. The biggest obstacle  to keep blood sugar level normal  is excess carbohydrates. Which we unknowingly take consistently through food.

That is why it is very important to have a meal plan for a diabetic patient.Through which he will constantly get enough of low carbohydrates as well as other nutrients of  the foods.

This plan can be on daily or weekly basis. However,  if you do it on weekly basis rather than daily, you will get more benefits

People who are suffering from Type 1 or type 2 diabetes  should get around 45 to 65% of daily calories from carbs. Need to be stated that women need a little less calories than men. CDC,  a international reputed organisation, recommends 3 - 4 serving of carbohydrates ( 1 carb =15 grams of carbohydrates) for the women.

When men are  recommended for 4 to 5 serving. That means women should take up to 60 grams carbs each meal while men should take up to 75 grams. Experts say that a recommended amount of carbs can help the diabetes to maintain blood sugar level normal.

The diabetes should eat a balanced diet everyday. He should be more serious  about the items  he eats  in breakfast lunch and dinner. First, he should make sure that the foods he eats are full of protein, fibre and necessary carbohydrate. Seafood, poultry, meat, eggs are very friendly with diabetic patients.

It is very important to have enough non starchy  vegetables on the food plate. Some of the  vegetables have very low calories. No  matter, how much you eat them no fear of getting blood sugar high. Like gourd cucumber etc. After the main dish a few fruits can be taken.

If possible greek yogurt could be added as a dessert. Greek yogurt is  full of nutrients, very low in carbs and sugar. No  matter  what time of day you eat  should take some  smart fats like nuts, olive, fish, avocado and other plants.

But always be careful of saturated fats  of red meat , cheese, butter and some other dairy products.  Saturated fat  is truly  unhealthy fat.

Some foods  which are  enriched with carbohydrates can make blood sugar high with the people suffering from diabetes. Rice, white bread, corn, some starchy  vegetables like potato, yams, beer candy, ice cream, soda  etc these are to be avoided

People who are suffering from diabetes  should be very conscious of foods they eat.  Foods that raise blood sugar should be consciously avoided. On the other hand, meals  that are low in calories and high in nutritional  value  should be eaten more.
